A deep dive into Practical Collage Composition

Learn how to actually use the Principles of Art and Design in every collage you create.

Collage is a fascinating and powerful art form, but nothing in art is arbitrary - everything has a structure. If you love collage and want to understand how to intentionally build strong, captivating compositions, this intensive will help you see the medium in a whole new way.

In this engaging 3-month intensive, collage artist and Collage-Lab founder Kelly Schaub explores:

  • The core Principles of Design, including Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, Unity/Harmony, Rhythm, Variety, and Scale/Proportion.

  • How to use Gestalt Theory, Movement, and Depth to direct your viewer's eye and tell a story.

  • Practical, hands-on exercises that demonstrate how to actually apply these principles to your own cut & paste creations.

  • Six LIVE Zoom trainings where we will learn, share our progress, discuss assignments, and connect as a creative community.

Principles in Practice will meet live on Zoom on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, starting April 8, 2026, through June 24, 2026. We meet at 1:00 pm CDT for 2 - 2 1/2 hours, with replays always available within 24 hours.
